Te Manawa Sports Alive!!!

In the middle of term 2 our class went on a class trip to Te Manawa to visit the Sports Alive display and also to have some fun playing with and programming the roamer robots. This visit fitted in nicely with our technology theme as it allowed us to see how sport has driven technology and vice versa. Here's Willie and JT trying out some new technology - having a serious bike race!!!

Our Room 11 Desk Tidies!!

This term we have been having a bit of an indepth look at technology in class. This was one activity we did to introduce the idea of DMA (Design, make and appraise). The class were given a design brief - basically that Mr Mitchell thought that their desks were gosh awful messy and needed some serious tidying!! So students had to use recycled materials to design, make and appraise a desk tidy device that could hold two pens, a pencil, a ruler, a glue-stick and..... umm I forget. Here's Luke's device... I am lost for words!

Our cool buddy class catapults activity

This is a cool activity we did in class this term together with our buddy class. We were presented with a technology challenge where we had to use 20 sheets of newspaper, 2 rubber bands and one metre of string to make a device that would fling a ping pong ball as far as possible. Here's one team's construction. I think from memory that Jayden and Jack Sproull's team won. The ping pong ball went about 3 metres!!

Term 1 River Study Trip

In term one this year out theme was all about looking after the world around. We were hopefully wanting to answer the focus question of"If God is soverreign, then why do we need to bother to look after the world around us". This was a pretty deep and meaniningful question but in the end we kinda figured out that we all had a serious responsbility to look after the world around us because God left us in charge of it!
As part of this study we had an in depth look at water quality issues in the Pohangina River. This was carried out together with the local regional council, Horizons MW. Here's a picture of a few of room 11's boys checking out the water clarity using a clarity tube. Whaddya see Melo?

Our Awesome Class Camp at Vertical Horizons!!

Back at the start of term 1 our class went on an awesome camp to Vertical Horizons in New Plymouth -well Stratfor actually! It was five fun filled days where we did all sorts of stuff like experiencing the flying kiwi, taking the black hole hydroslide in New Plymouth, eeling down at the creek (not very successful), go karting down the hill; you name it we did it.
Thanks room 11 for an awesome camp - you were all superb!!
